C3S launches its Issue Map initiative. The reports under this series analyse the status and developments of current scenarios in detail. Issue Maps are available for download as PDFs.

About a month and a half have passed since the 2018 BIMSTEC Summit. As is the case every year, there has been a plethora of research literature on the subject. However, there is scope for eschewing rhetoric while addressing the specific root causes behind BIMSTEC not achieving its full potential. This C3S Issue Map analyses the current status of BIMSTEC and its potential to emerge not only an alternative to SAARC, but also become the prime connectivity and trade hub of the region. An In-depth study has been carried out on the BIMSTEC FTA, trade facilitation, connectivity, over-bureaucratization and under-staffing and the China factor.
