Abstract
This paper aims to analyse the China-Taiwan relationship through different lens of technological statecraft in the case of semiconductor considerations. Taking into account frameworks of techno-statecraft, techno-economic statecraft, and techno-geopolitics, this paper takes apart the specific case of sub 7 nm semiconductor chips and establishes that Taiwan holds significant leverage over China in supplying chips to Chinese AI companies. However, this paradigm is influenced by complex interdependency and does not deter China from conducting activities perceived as threats to Taiwanese sovereignty. This brings American military influence back into the equation. Taking this into consideration, this paper shifts the strategic focus from the US-China Tech Cold War towards Taiwan's tangible hold over the Chinese AI landscape and relegated American military role.
